Laurent Lyonswurst

Summary:

The heir of the Lyonswurst fortune, Sir Laurent was a fat (but strong) dandy of the first order, the delight of the Queen of Daggerfall. Behind his charming exterior, however, lurked the soul of a monster.

The Lyonswursts haled from Wayrest, where they were a successful banking family, rivals of the Gaerington clan. In backing Helseth’s claims to the throne, however, they were marked as enemies by Queen Elysana, and fled to Daggerfall. There, the surviving heir, Laurent, became a fixture at the court, a particular favorite of Queen Aubk-i.

When he was at his great white marble manor, however, Laurent could let his mask drop. He delighted in sadistic sex games with prostitutes of both genders, and even more enjoyed torturing members of the gentry. His activities first came to light when the sister of the circus owner Quill (né Dygbal Ivytyde), the Countess of Ivytyde, apparently committed suicide after being “courted” by Laurent Lyonswurst. Tris Gaerington, Mirea, and Quill investigated the matter, and Laurent very nearly murdered Tris before Mirea rescued him.

Laurent, arrested by Herwyn Brand, was killed on a lonely stretched of country road in High Rock, his body thrown to the side and never recovered.

Laurent, monster that he was, was still but a pawn in the political games of Tamriel. Barenziah had evidence planted in his manor, implicating him as an agent of hers, and seeing to it that Queen Elysana’s Spymaster Herwyn Brand found it. She also planted a mind-controlling ring, so that Elysana could come to the conclusion that Tris and Ciel had been the unwilling servants of Helseth and Barenziah. Thus, was the long feud finally resolved by subterfuge, with Sir Laurent Lyonswurst being judged guilty for the only crime he never committed.
